Teenager Hacks High School Network To Improve Grades
Eric Walstrom, an american teenager (age 16) reportedly hacked into
high school network and then changed his grades in the report cards and
transcripts.
He bypassed the school’s (New Dorp High School in Staten Island,
New York) password system and then created a network that allows him to
access the school computer system from his smartphone.
He was caught when the school IT workers noticed the unauthorised
log-ins to the system. The school notified police, and Walstrom was
arrested on Wednesday this week.
A law-enforcement source said, “You’d think a kid smart enough to
hack his school’s computers would already have good grades. Maybe the
DOE should hire him to expose weaknesses in their security firewalls.”
He has been charged as an adult with forgery, computer trespass,
unauthorised use of a computer, computer tampering and criminal
possession of forgery devices.
This incident points to an undeniable fact that the new generation
of teenagers are very much knowledgeable about the computer security and
hacking.
