Uber Reveals Hacking Attack And Possible Data Theft
Uber, the company behind the popular ride-sharing app has revealed a
hacking attack that reportedly stole 50,000 driver information from
their database last year.
Uber said in a blog post,
"Immediately upon discovery we changed the access protocols for the
database, removing the possibility of unauthorized access. We are
notifying impacted drivers, but we have not received any reports of
actual misuse of information as a result of this incident."
The accessed database contained only the name and driver’s license number of some driver partners.
Uber has launched a John Doe lawsuit in the district court of northern
California against the hacker who posted a login key in github which is
used to access an internal Uber database.
Katherine Tassi, Uber’s Managing Counsel of Data Privacy said that the
company will provide a free one year identity protection service to all
the affected partners.
